Ohio University Underage Drinking

By: Emilee Kraus and Olivia Reaney

Ohio University has acquired a stigma of an underage drinking school.  Students have opposing views on this persona and share their opinions on whether or not it is necessary to participate in the drinking.  Even after an arrest, a student still feels the same about participating in the underage drinking culture here at Ohio University.  On the opposing side, a student stands strong behind her beliefs to not participate in underage drinking.  A psychology professor shares his beliefs on the social norms and need for conformity that drinking can bring. He discusses why students feel the urge to drink underage in the city of Athens. The university's police chief expresses his concern for the amount of underage drinking he sees here. He shares his experiences of the dangers and consequences he has seen. Ohio University continues to carry this stigma, but students and professionals will continue to take opposing sides.
