An Inside Look at the Life of OU Student Senate VP



Childhood
Jones is the Student Senate
Vice-President at Ohio University.
Roger Jones grew up in Cleveland / Akron, Ohio area. He has three brothers, a step-brother, and step-sister.
He also said that when he was little he had braces on his legs because he was bow-legged. He compared himself to Forrest Gump in a joking manner, but said that since then legs were corrected.
He graduated from Cuyahoga Falls High School and decided to attend Ohio University in Athens, Ohio. “I come from a big city, so it was different coming to a more rural area.”

Campus Involvement
At the age of 21, Roger is a senior at Ohio University and is studying sport management.
His favorite thing about Ohio University is the community. Besides the gorgeous campus, “It is almost like when they [the students] come here, they change. They get a sense of community. They are more lively, more interactive. That’s one thing I like about Ohio University,” said Jones.
Jones is actively involved in campus organizations. The above

LGBT center. He accepts all types of people and lifestyles.
Campus involvement was near and dear to Jones’ heart at Ohio University. He has been a member of the Student Senate for his entire tenure at the university. He is also involved in the Sports Fitness Association, which a lot of sport management majors are members of. He is also a member of the Schey Sales Centre, a campus organization in which students work towards earning a certificate in sales. He is actively involved in a committee to reduce high risk drinking at Ohio University. He is currently a member of the Ozone student athletic supporters and the Chair of Baker Center Advisory Board. In the past, he was a Resident Assistant (RA) in Bromley residence hall.

Average Day of the Ohio University Student Senate Vice-President

Jones checks his email daily in the Student Senate office. 
Waking up bright and early in the morning and heading to the gym to workout is a typical routine for Jones. Around 10:00a.m. is when Jones heads to the Student Senate Office in Baker Center for his daily office hours. First on his office agenda is checking emails. He also focuses on any timely committees or work that should be completed. He creates the powerpoint presentations that are used in the weekly Wednesday night Student Senate General Body Meetings, in addition to coordinating those meeting locations. In Feburary, he spends a lot of time on the Student Trustee process. He also oversees the members of Student Senate and meets every other Sunday with all of the commissioners. He attends class in the afternoons and usually has meetings in the evening to attend. Following the meetings is work. Even though Jones’ is always busy, “It is definitely rewarding,” said Jones.

Free time --- what’s that?
Jones enjoys spending time with friends.
These friends are Student Senate President,
Kyle Tripplett, and Treasurer, Chris Wimsatt.
When Roger is not working at Pawpurr’s Bar, located on Court Street in Athens, Ohio, working as a Marketing Associate for Ohio Athletics, or involved in campus organization activities, he likes to play sports or watch TV. “When I get it [free time],” said Jones. “I love sports, so I play basketball, I workout, play football, and when I get the chance I like to run.” He said that he loves movies and watching TV. His favorite actor is Will Smith. “I love hanging out with my friends too,” Said Jones.




Jones currently works as a Marketing Associate for Ohio Athletics.
Career / Life Aspirations
Jones’ dream job is to be a sports broadcast analyst. But in the near future he sees himself working in marketing sales and promotions.
“I am a dare-devil and a risk-taker,” said Jones. His bucket list consists of skydiving, deep sea diving, walking on a high wire between buildings, and flying a plane.
