Goal setting. Grinding. Focusing.
Mark R. Wright
Mark is a native of
Currently, Mark is working as Corporate Communications Coordinator for the Cleveland Cavaliers and Quicken Loans Arena in the Public Relations department. His dream is to attend Boston University in their media ventures dual degree program, then making his way to New York to pursue a career in producing films. In reference to his future career goals he hopes to make meaningful bodies of work, “I want to be influential in all aspects of my work and life,” he says.
A major inspiration to this young man is God. Although not in a religious form but through His positivity, good will, ideas, and thoughts in their purest form such as God. He then adds, “I’m inspired by pieces of nature and parts of life, laughter, music, pain.” Another inspiration is his long time friend and peer Bajiyjaui Allen; Mark views Ms. Allen as motivated and focused on her craft and he admits her drive and passion is something that he admires.
Spring 2010
As our discussion went on I asked Mark to reflect on his experience thus far with the Cleveland Cavaliers and how this current position will prepare him for his future career goals:
“My current role with the Cavs and The Q teaches me how to work with media from a business standpoint. I hope to be a respected media professional. I’ve learned Public Relations and the importance of carefully crafted messaging. I view this position as a new opportunity for growth in a different area. I don’t see myself as being stagnate; I always want to continue to grow. I don’t know, maybe I’ll be the Vice President of Communications someday. I don’t want to limit myself. Some days I want to make movies, some days I want to make mix tapes – but at the end of the day I want to be self-employed. My goals are bigger than myself. I want to bring people in and create opportunities for those around me.”
To students and his peers Mark R. Wright seems to be a name that will be remembered throughout Ohio University. Even with being a proud member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc., former President of The Black Student Cultural Programming Board, member of Ohio University Recruiting Society, peer advisor for the multicultural peer-mentoring LINKS program, member of the Black Student Communication Caucus, Student Senate Board of Elections, Council of Student Leaders, and Ohio University’s Homecoming Committee, this young man’s greatest memory of his Ohio University experience is winning the 2010 Senior Leadership Award. For Mark this award was the realization that everything he had ever worked for had finally paid off.
Mark goes on to say that, “I never asked for recognition. When it came to Alpha events, I acknowledged the work of my fraternity brothers; when it came to Homecoming I recognized Leah and Tylah’s outstanding work. After four years it meant a lot to have others recognize me and acknowledge my years of hard work in Athens. It also meant a lot to have my family there for support.”

Great Post!
ReplyDeleteAt a time when many young people are garnering so much negative publicity, it is refreshing to see a young brother who knows where he's going and has a plan to get there. It doesn't hurt that he has a "hot girl friend" to keep him on track.
